WORD FOR TODAY – ‭‭JOHN‬ ‭20‬:‭28

JOHN‬ ‭20‬:‭28‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!””

Another aspect of God’s character is his triune nature. God is not only personal.
He is a plurality of Persons – Trinity.
He is the God that fellowships with himself and with humanity.
The doctrine of the Trinity affirms that God is one yet three separate Persons.
This manifestation of himself as three persons is for the economy of our salvation.
Admittedly, this is not easy to understand, but it is clear in Scripture.
The term “Trinity” does not appear anywhere in the Bible (it was first used by Tertullian around AD 210).
The Trinity is mainly a revelation in the New Testament, but there are also glimpses of the truth to be seen in the Old Testament.
“Let us make man in our image” (Gen. 1:26).
“Man has now become like
one of us” (Gen. 3:22).
In Isaiah 6:8 God says: “Whom the truth of shall I send? And who will go for us?”
St Augustine noted: “Go to the Jordan and you will find the Trinity.
There at the baptism of Jesus the three Persons in the Godhead are simultaneously in evidence. The Father is heard speaking directly from heaven, the Son is seen being immersed in the river, and John the Baptist beheld the Spirit descending upon the Christ.” Three in One and One in Three.
On this truth we must stand, even though we may not fully understand.
This truth may be darkness to our intellect but sunshine to our hearts.
He is indeed our Lod and our God.
