Let’s make time to dwell in God’s presence even though countless things clamour for our attention. Nothing is more precious as spending time with God. While we wait in his presence, he works within us, transforming us by the renewing of our minds. If we fail to spend time in fellowship and devotion with him we may plunge headlong into wrong activities and miss the richness of what he has planned and purposed for us. Let’s not seek him just for what he can give us. Remember that he, God (the Giver) is infinitely greater than any gift or blessing might give us. God delights in fellowshipping with us. Although he also delights in blessing us, he is deeply grieved when his blessings become idols or stumbling blocks to fellowship with him. An idol is anything that distracts us from God. When we make him the ultimate desire of our hearts, we are safe from the danger of idolatry. The Psalmist asserted: “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked (Psalms 84:10 NIV).” When we give him the centre stage of our hearts, in fellowship and devotion to him, he will transform us and we will conform to him and not to the world.
