“Behold, I am with you and will keep [careful watch over you and guard] you wherever you may go, and I will bring you back to this [promised] land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.””

GOLD NUGGETS

Jacob was apprehensive of danger from his brother Esau; but God promised to keep him safe. He had a long journey before him, had to travel alone, in an unknown road, to an unknown country; but, the Lord assured him of his presence. Wherever we are, we are safe, and may be easy, if we have God’s favourable presence with us. Unlike the gods of pagan religions who are local deities and could only protect their devotees within their own territories, God assured Jacob he would always be with him wherever he went. God knows how and when to give his people graces and comforts. Additionally, God promised to bring him back again to his land. He that preserves his people’s going out will also take care of their coming in, (Ps. 121:8). Furthermore, God assured him that he would not leave him. Whom God loves he never leaves. His love for us is constant. We change like shifting sand, letting circumstances toss us up and down. Step into this day emboldened by with the assurance that God’s love flows eternally from the cross to you and his gracious abiding presence dwells with his covenant people of which you are one.
