PROVERBS 16:24 AMP
“Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweet and delightful to the soul and healing to the body.”
GOLD NUGGETS
Be mindful of your tone of voice/words when speaking. An old Chinese proverb says, “If you have a soft voice, you don’t need a big stick.” Most of the friction in human relationships is caused not so much by the words we speak, but by the tone of voice in which we speak them. Our speech conveys out thoughts. The tone of our voice conveys our mood. It is easy to say, “I love you”, in a tone that conveys the very opposite. Our text does not actually say we should focus on the right tone of voice but the implication is evidently clear in the command to use words that are kind, gentle and tender. The Holy Scriptures urge us to do more than seek a change in behaviour, but a change that goes right down to the core of our being. Change must always come from the inside out, otherwise it will not be real change. Immense yourself in the Word of God. Be soaked and saturated in it and let it sanitise your tongue (words, speech and tone). Indeed, let the Word go deeper – into the “thoughts and intents of the heart” (Heb. 4:12, NKJ). Paul tells us in Ephesians 4:29 – “Do not let unwholesome [foul, profane, worthless, vulgar] words ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good for building up others, according to the need and the occasion, so that it will be a blessing to those who hear [you speak].” May the Lord give us wisdom so we can make good use of words. SHOLOM: God’s all encompassing blessings to you
