WORD FOR TODAY – RUTH 2‬:‭3‬ ‭

RUTH 2‬:‭3‬ ‭NIV

“So she went out, entered a field and began to glean behind the harvesters. As it turned out, she was working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelek.”

‬‬

Naomi and Ruth had arrived in Bethlehem at the beginning of the barley harvest (Ruth 1:22).
Therefore finding a task that would occupy the young Ruth of which she could feed herself and Naomi was not difficult.
At harvest time there was always work to be found in the fields.
When the workers went through the fields reaping the harvest, often, because of the speed at which they worked, they would leave behind small unreaped sections.
Jewish law stated that the gleanings must be left for the poor, and the grain collected by the gleaners became theirs (Lev. 19:9-10; Deut. 24:19).
During the harvest, all poor people who had desire to glean simply went and worked wherever their inclination took them.
When Ruth took up the role of gleaner, she happened to find herself reaping in one of the fields of Boaz (a relative of her late father-in law).
The term used in the second half of today’s text, “as it turned out”, is loaded with deep spiritual insights.
Divine guidance was at work here.
Ruth might not have realised it, because most divine guidance takes place when we are not conscious of it.
To her it may seemed casual. She didn’t know whom the fields belonged to and she had no particular reason for going to that particular field, but Providence directed her steps to the field of Boaz.
By his providence, God directs us to places purposely to bless us.
Many a great affair is brought about by a little turn, which seemed accidental to us, but was directed by God’s providence.
Mainly, providence means God is aware of what is happening in any given person’s life.
He invests in how things go for us.
By his Spirit he is able to steer us, move us, and motivate us to make decisions that will prosper us.
Step into this week with the assurance and confidence that God’s providence is available to you.
Have a prosperous week.
